The Canada Start-Up Visa program is intended for foreign entrepreneurs who want to startup an innovative business in Canada. Successful candidates receive a Canadian Permanent Residence status for themselves and their families.

Admissibility Criteria

Create an eligible innovative business:

  • A minimum of 10% voting rights must be owned by each applicant.
  • The candidates and designated organizations must own at least 50% of the voting rights.
  • A maximum of 5 people can apply as owners of the business.
  • Must be incorporated in Canada.
  • Must be active in Canada.

Have sufficient funds to support yourself in Canada.

  • Be accepted into a designated incubator business program;
  • Obtain a total investment of $200,000 from venture capital funds; or
  • Obtain a minimum of $75,000 from an angel investor or group.

Minimum language requirement: Each applicant must have achieved a minimum Canadian language proficiency (CLB) level 5 in English or French for speaking, reading, writing, and listening.

Program Steps Overview

  1. Meet with Leduc team for preliminary assessment

  2. Complete and provide Leduc team with following documents

    • Retainer agreement
    • Application Form
    • All supporting documentation required by Leduc team
  3. Interview with designated organization

    • Submit business pitch-deck
    • Receive Letter of Support
  4. Submit application

    • Leduc team will prepare and submit the immigration application
    • Interview with immigration officer
    • Pass medical and background check
  5. Operate your business

    • Apply for a work permit to begin your Canadian entrepreneurship journey
